This is a companion website to the course, The Many Pasts of India's Present--the first of the  three Understanding India (UI) courses in the undergraduate program's Common Curriculum. The website's purpose is to: 

• Introduce and contextualize the units and the weekly themes in the course.

• Provide an overview of the assigned and exploratory material for each week.

• Explain and illustrate key concepts and ideas related to each weekly theme.

Importantly, this website is not meant to be a substitute for the assigned readings in the course. It is not a 'textbook' in that sense. Rather, it is more like a primer. The website, properly used, will 'prime' you to engage with, as well as enjoy, the course to the fullest extent.
