At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Identify long-term geological, environmental, territorial, demographic, and cultural transformations in/of the Indian subcontinent.

  2. Recognize that present concerns and debates in India over territoriality, history, autochthony, and foundational ideas of the nation are informed by past events and processes.

  3. Comprehend and apply social scientific concepts at a basic level to existent reality, historical pasts, and imaginative/mythological discourses as they pertain to India.

  4. Appreciate the dizzying plurality of Indian pasts and the dynamism of Indian history as they inform and impact the present.

  5. Value the coexistence of (cultural) difference and multiplicity of origins.
